We present a new technique in breast reduction, which enables this minimizing scars and obtaining final symmetry in the position of both nipples. The main difference between our technique and Lejour vertical scar lies in the placement of both nipple-areola complex at the end of the surgical process once assembled the breasts and not by a pre-intervention design. This ideal is lying to them while both are at the same height relative to each other, that is symmetrical in both breasts.

For many years the classic technique of breast reduction has been the removal of glandular tissue and skin, designed by resection leaving a scar in the form of inverted T from around the areola and inframammary fold. Subsequently, this technique was modified by Dr Lassus and Dr. Madeleine Lejour who designed a technique in which only appeared a vertical scar from the areola to the fold. This amendment represented a breakthrough in breast reduction techniques but also the fact prior to the intervention design where to place the nipple-areola complex and remove this whole area of skin at the start of surgery, had the great disadvantage as requiring the surgeon to place the nipple-areola complex in a fixed position, previously designed, which was sometimes asymmetries, and could lead to excessive suffering from skin to make the suture and the breast be too much stress being able to even total necrosis the nipple areolar complex. With the Lejour technique, the nipple-areola complex of each breast is positioned on the site designed in advance and the final result was very often asymmetrical.

With the new technique developed by us, presented at the Congress of the American Society of Aesthetic Surgery and published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, “solves this problem, since its design does not involve removal of the skin after the area where the nipple is placed, but the final location of the nipple-areola complex is at the end of the intervention, when the breast is already decreased, facilitating changes in position, thus allowing for better symmetry with the other breast.

This is a triangular shape, being the apex of the triangle, where we will place the nipple in the desired location without any preconditions, on completion of reduction.

The aim of our technique is to make a proper placement of the areola, without tension, making the procedure symmetrically on both sides without being influenced by the design and subsequent removal of the skin that is done with the Lejour technique.

In none of the cases treated with this technique any complication was observed in the nipple-areola complex or asymmetry, as was formerly very good results postoperatively.

Patients implanted with the technique achieves a more satisfactory cosmetic result than with previous techniques and gain a greater symmetry of the breasts with a much more harmonious outcome.
